History

We helped build the Americas.

That may be a bold statement but when you think about it, anything that starts as raw material mined from our great land was made accessible due to explosives providing the energy to break it free.

Breaking Rock for centuries

And that’s just the beginning because Austin Powder also helped clear the paths that helped our country grow—building canals, railroads and highways, and providing coal energy. We’ve been manufacturing explosives since 1833 and we take great pride in playing a major role in America’s development. And because of our growth, we are even more relevant today than we were in 1833.

Austin Powder has been present in Argentina since 1993 when acquired an explosives factory located in Rafaela, Santa Fe, which has been manufacturing explosives since  1959.

  • 1959 Rafaela manufacturing plant starts operating
  • 1978 A significant investment is made and the first slurries plant is built in Argentina
  • 1984-1985 NMMA, PETN, RDX and HMX plants are erected, forming the most up-to-date local plants with the latest technology.
  • 1993 Austin Powder purchases 100% of the plants and introduces new technology.
  • 1995 New technology with bulk emulsion explosives and mechanized loading was incorporated in county by Austin Powder (Red Devil ®).
  • 1997 Austin Powder reaches an important milestone: becomes the provider of the main mines both in Argentina and Uruguay

  • 2013 An Electric Detonators Assembly Plant is inaugurated
  • 2016 A Bulk and Cartridge Emulsions Plant is inaugurated
