At this customer site, which produces 2MM tons per year, Austin’s technical team was charged with marrying two sides of the pit and creating a new bench on the floor. The bench height was 40ft, and the team had to get a new ramp and a new 40ft face created as fast as possible.
“This shot was unique in that we combined a 40′ face with a 40′ sinking shot and were able to pull (the entire depth of) the 40′ sinking shot to produce the new bench face as quickly as possible. This isn’t typical, but in this case, it was necessary due to the timing requirements of the customer,” explains Dirk Carolan, Technical Manager – Mid South LLC.
