Austin Powder Partners with American Industrial Partners to Accelerate Its Growth Strategy
Cleveland, Ohio – July 1, 2024 – Austin Powder (the “Company” or “Austin”), a leading provider of industrial explosives and engineered blasting solutions, announced today that it has received a strategic investment from American Industrial Partners (“AIP”) to support and enhance the Company’s growth strategy in partnership with Austin’s existing long term ownership group and management team.
Operating in a safety-critical and technical industry, Austin Powder has nearly 200 years of industry expertise that has enabled it to build a suite of integrated products and services for the blasting process. The Company has only had four owners in its history, and the current ownership and management team has successfully expanded Austin over the past 40 years into a leading global operator. AIP’s financial and operational support and resources will help position Austin Powder for continued growth and success over the next decade.

12/16/2020 Did you know that Austin Powder has been on the project since the early stages when the roads, tailing management facilities, and pre-stripping projects were underway? Today we are the sole explosives and blasting service supplier in the mining operations in the Botija pit.
With MSHA's approval to use gassed emulsions underground, Austin Powder is demonstrating the benefits of its Red Devil gassed emulsion delivery system, which is already proven in Europe and Latin America.
The UVA Mine in Chile is one of the most recent examples of state-of-theart mining technology. This unique underground mine uses an ore transfer system supported by equipment that is remotely operated from a control room located outside the mine. Austin participates in this project using their Red Devil system and E*STAR Centralized Underground Blasting Equipment and detonators.
Austin Powder's longtime customer, West Plains Mining, was cut-off from several large stone markets simply by distance. With several million tons of reserves on hold, and a desire to expand in the future, West Plains needed assistance with implementing a new transportation system. At the Temium iron ore mine in Mexico, Austin Powder provides pattern design and blasting services to mine the ore. The Austin crew combines teamwork and experience to help our customer achieve its goals while always maintaining a safe and healthy working environment.
In Ontario, Canada the Austin team was able to break a year's worth of rock for our customer in a single blast! The team fired 1,416 E*STAR detonators and over 86,000 kg (189,597 lbs) of Hydromite with two blasting machines to produce 259,405 tons (285,945 tons) of rock.
The Preg Dunite Quarry is known for its production of dunit, a very hard and abrasion-resistant rock, that is primarily used as an aggregate for asphalt and ballast for railroad lines. Of course, blasting is the first step to fragment the rock for further processing and Austin is proud of the role it plays in supplying products, technical support and blasting services.
One of the largest E*STAR blasts of 2020 was performed in Antwerp Port in Belgium. Demolition of at 8,000 m2 (86,111 ft2) concrete base plate utilized 6.87 tons of explosives and 2,210 detonators. The location was flooded by 1.5 m (5 ft) of water and blasted in 9.5 seconds.
This $209 million Design-Build project is West Virginia Department of Highways' largest to date. It includes the design, grade, and drain for US 48 (Corridor H) and the US 219 Connector. The work includes 12 million cubic yards (9.17 million cubic meters) of heavy earthwork, significant rock blasting, and five bridge structures ranging up to 1,200 ft. (365 m) long and 250 ft. (76 m) tall. Austin Powder provides explosives and blasting for the prime contractor, Kokosing Construction Company Inc. Austin began blasting on the project in 2017.
Norway has over 1,100 road tunnels that collectively span 800 km (497 thousand). Of these tunnels, 73 are over 3,000 m (1.9 thousand) long. Norway is excavating approximately 8 million m3 (1.05 million yd3) of rock in new road, rail and water tunnels every year. Safety and environmental issues have moved the market to electronics in almost all new highway projects, which makes E*STAR Tunnel a long-awaited upgrade for this market.
Hong Kong's population is on the rise. To help relief traffic congestion, the Tseung Kwan O – Lam Tin Tunnel (TKO-LTT) tunnel is being built to get ahead of the district's future development. Austin Powder provides products for the surface blasting for the exchange and tunnel blasting for the project. The construction is scheduled to be completed in 2021.
