Mina UVA in Chile is one of the latest examples of cutting-edge mining technology. This unique underground mine uses a mineral transfer system backed by remotely controlled equipment from a control room located outside the mine. Austin participates in this project using its Red Devil system and centralized underground blasting equipment with E*STAR electronic detonators.
This $209 million design and construction project is the largest to date of the West Virginia Highway Department. Includes design, slope and drainage for US Highway 48 (Corridor H) and US 219 connector. The work includes 9.17 million m3 of earth movement, important rock blasts and five bridge structures that extend up to 365 m long and 76 m high. Austin Powder supplies explosives and blasting service to the main contractor, Kokosing Construction Company Inc. Austin began blasting this project in 2017.

In Ontario, Canada, the Austin team managed to fragment the rock the customer needs in a single blast for a year. 1,416 E*STAR detonators and more than 86,000 kg of Hydromite were used, using two E*STAR equipment. A total of 259,405 tonnes of rock were produced.
The Preg Dunite quarry is known for its production of dunita, a very hard and abrasion resistant rock, which is mainly used as an aggregate for asphalt and ballast for railway lines. Of course, blasting is the first step in fragmenting the rock for further processing. Austin is proud of its role in providing products, technical support, and blasting services.
At the port of Antwerp in Belgium, one of the largest blasts was carried out with E*STAR in 2020. This was the demolition of an 8,000 m2 concrete base plate, for which 6.87 tons of explosives and 2,210 detonators were used. The place was covered with 1.5 m of water and the blast lasted 9.5 seconds.
