Austin Powder is very proud of its long-standing Safety Culture. Safety is in its Mission Statement, in its core Values, but more importantly, it is in all it does and everywhere it operates. The company’s commitment to safety has evolved since it began in 1833 to include its blasting services in the field in addition to the requirements at its manufacturing and storage facilities.

At Austin Powder, our corporate goal is to be recognized as the safest explosives manufacturer, supplier, and blasting company in the world. Since our founding, the safety of our operations and the well-being of our team members have been fundamental pillars in every decision we make, leading us to establish Safety as our first value.

We strive to implement the Basis of Safety (BOS) in all our operations to prevent catastrophic events and minimize their consequences. BOS represents a set of best practices developed by the industry over time. This commitment is so important to us that our President and CEO, John Rathbun, is the chairman of SAFEX International, an organization uniting the world’s leading civil explosives companies since 1954. SAFEX’s mission is to “eliminate worldwide the harmful effects of explosives on People, Property, and the Planet (Environment)” by fostering a culture of shared learning and continuous improvement.

We apply the same level of care and dedication to driving and maintaining our fleet of vehicles and managing our equipment underground. Safety is not just a priority for us—it’s the foundation of everything we do.
